September 2008 saw various personnel changes within the BBCA, with the parish council having a closer link, through membership. This was to consolidate on the work already started by original members and further the new community facilities. Each of the trustees is elected annually and new members join each year. We currently have 10 trustees and below is a brief profile of what each of our trustees has to offer this community and in particular the development of Bracklesham Park.
Current BBCA Trustee Profiles:
DIANNE STRANGE (Chairwoman)
Dianne has resided in Bracklesham Bay for around 20 years and she hold a senior position within the Social Services Department of Hampshire County Council. She has considerable knowledge and expertise in community projects and at present she is accountable for a thirty million pound budget and the BBCA are indeed fortunate to have this lady on board. Dianne is also a committed Christian and being committed to youth involvement sees the Community Centre project as vital to the future of this parish.
Basil Lambert (Treasurer)
Basil and his wife Madge have lived happily in East Wittering since 1997, although their association with the village goes back a further 20 years when they had a site on Bracklesham Bay Boat & Caravan Club in East Bracklesham Drive. Basil & Madge first met in 1944 whilst serving with the 14th Army I Burma during World War II and in 2008 celebrated their Diamond Wedding, together with their two lovely daughters and many friends. He became a councillor in 2003, in order to serve the residents in any way possible, and to make life in this lovely village as enjoyable as possible. In addition to serving on the BBCA, Parish Council, his other parish duties include the Planning Committee, Crime Prevention, Village Hall Management, Bracklesham Bay General Committees and editor of the Parish Newsletter.
Joyce Griffith (Secretary)
LUCIE McDONALD
Lucie is a local artist who moved to the area three years ago. She lived in Brighton for ten years previously where she was a founder member of the Brighton Open House festival. The group brought together over 1000 artists and craftspeople in conjunction with the Brighton Festival. Lucie was head of events and sponsorship for the group. She has a background in raising money and awareness for community and arts projects. Lucie has put together a calendar of events to raise sponsorship and support for Bracklesham Park (Please check the website and local press for details). She welcomes any ideas/volunteers both to bring the community together and to have fun raising the needed funds - just send us an email!
Peter Bates
Andy Stevens
Andy moved to Bracklesham in December 2005 with his wife Margaret. He and Margaret run Windrush in Bracklesham and have a heart for the community. Together they also run a Church in their home. Previously Andy lived in Cowplain, north of Portsmouth with links to this area through Windrush since 2001. He used to be in engineering before giving up a position running a drawing office in a division of GKN to help Margaret run Windrush. He has two children; Hannah and Asa both grown up and living in Hampshire.
Dave Waller
Dave moved to Bracklesham Bay in 2001 from Cocking where He was secretary of Cocking F.C. for 35 years & also secretary for Cocking Sports Club for 25 years. He is now currently a committee member for the West Sussex Football League.
GARY POUNDALL
Gary has over twenty years experience in Surface Coatings and Manufacturing, which includes: Technical Advisory / Specifications work; Process Engineering and Quality Management. He also has Business Management experience and qualifications. He is a family man who has worked and lived in the area since 2000, and see's the addition of the proposed facilities being beneficial for everyone in the community for the forseeable future.
Joe O’Sullivan
Joe and his wife have lived on the Manhood Peninsula for over 25 years. He recently retired as a Pensions Consultant and his wife retired from the Wittering Chemist at the same time. With a grown up married daughter who is a teacher, a son who works in Tangmere and now two grandsons.
Jane Chaloner
She moved to the Parish of E. Wittering and Bracklesham in 1989 some twenty years ago where she opened a restaurant in the High Street. Her two sons grew up here and went to local schools. She has been involved with the Christmas Lights in the villages for some years and has been instrumental in initiating fundraising to provide new Christmas lights for both E. Wittering and Bracklesham. Always having had a sense of community Jane now is using her fundraising skills to assist the BBCA and the new community centre.
GEORGE THOMAS (Hon. Life President)
George has resided in Bracklesham for over twenty years and during this time has become a highly respected member of the community. After serving as a Military Policeman for two years from the age of 19 to 21, he then started his own plumbing and heating business in 1961. George retired in 2003. He formerly ran the local residents association and served on the Parish Council for several years. He resigned this post to fully devote his time to setting up the BBCA and has been actively involved in this for the past five years. He was responsible for the early negotiations that secured the purchase of land that is now known as Bracklesham Park. He is also responsible for the Big Lottery Application and devoted considerable time to this project.
